February might have been a short month but there were still lots of changes in the world of social media! Here’s our summary of social media updates from February. Enjoy!
Starting with LinkedIn, which published its 2023 Workplace Learning Report! The report highlights key workplace trends and changes in development, based on internal and survey data among LinkedIn members. This is a great report which can be used to help guide your strategy in employee training and retention.
As a business owner, you might find yourself inundated with messages, making it difficult to keep track of everything. So, LinkedIn has added another way to keep track of your messaging chats in the app, with the ability to ‘star’ chosen conversations.
LinkedIn newsletters are a great way to engage your connections and present new opportunities for your outreach. To help increase your newsletter growth, LinkedIn has now announced new showcase tools! On that note, be sure to sign up to our newsletter: #UpgradeYourSocial!
To help to dispel misinformation and limit false reports, Twitter has rolled out a new update for its Community Notes feature! You will now receive an alert when a tweet that you’ve previously engaged with gets a new note attached. When alerted to any errors, you can then re-assess your initial response.
Twitter Blue subscribers can The long-form tweet with display in timelines with a “show more” option so It doesn’t take up the entire screen initially. Couple of initial issues – if your tweet is over the standard 280 characters, you can’t save it as a draft or schedule it for later but if you’re willing to pay for Twitter Blue it might be helpful to Tweet using more than 280 characters!
TikTok have another new partnership, this time with Mercedes- Benz! This will allow users to enjoy TikToks from their car. However, they have stated that “when the vehicle is in motion, image transmission is not activated, and usage of all entertainment apps is restricted on the centre display.” This update might be something to consider in terms of who is consuming your content, where and when!
TikTok have updated it’s ‘Creative Center’ with a feature that highlights how popular products are in the app. Results are based on the number of ads posted that featured the item, along with impressions, view-through rate, comments, likes etc. If you’re using TikTok for business/product marketing, these insights will be really beneficial.
They have also Launched a new ‘Creativity Program’ to provide more revenue opportunities to Creators! The Program will initially be available to creators by invite-only and then become available to all eligible US creators in the coming months. We’ll be watching this closely to see when it becomes available in the UK!
While Instagram is closing down its shopping features, TikTok is testing new in-stream shopping options!
The platform has added four new options to its quick Promote ad feature. This will help you drive more visits to your TikTok page, get more messages from potential customers, boost other creators’ content and target your audience by location!
Finally, TikTok is trying out another way to maximize engagement in the app with a new TikTok Live trivia series that will give users a chance to win money in the app.
Here are some important updates that are good to know but might not impact your marketing strategy!
Meta is testing product promotions on Instagram group chats! Users will be directly prompted to highlight their products in messaging discussions, as a way to promote their product/service.
On Instagram Reels, Meta is testing the ability to list the location of the profile that created the clip on the video itself. This could help provide more transparency as well as increase reach and engagement.
This next update from Meta is BIG! They’re testing ‘Meta Verified’ – a paid verification scheme on Facebook and Instagram. The new program will give better access to verification and account support. An interesting move following Twitter’s verification updates…
Lastly, Instagram has created a ‘Memory’ Story prompt! This update encourages users to re-share their old posts which helps with authenticity and repurposing content as well as increasing engagement.
Pinterest has launched an updated Pinterest Academy for marketers. The free courses (available globally) give you top classes skills and cover everything you need to run marketing campaigns!
Pinterest is following TikTok’s lead of increasing video length by expanding Idea Pin video length to 5 minutes! This gives you more opportunity to provide further detail in your pins and increase your SEO with keywords!
If you’re posting Shorts, you can soon increase your video engagement as YouTube is now rolling out the option for users to reply with a Short in the comments feed (sound familiar?! 😉)
YouTube are also adding new metrics for Shorts, including ‘shown in feed’ and ‘Viewed versus swiped away’. These metrics will provide more insight into how viewers find your Shorts content, and how they respond to it.
